Welcome Abby Schenk!

Very very exciting news for us! We are honored to have Abby Schenk joining our team beginning September 18th!

Abby Schenk joins Smith Physical Therapy and Running Academy as a full-time therapist. Abby was born in Ohio and attended Otterbein University, where she studied Allied Health and Pre-Med. She was captain for the Cross-Country, Indoor, and Outdoor Track Team for her 4 years as an undergraduate.

Abby then pursued her studies as a Physical Therapist at Saint Francis University in Loretto, Pennsylvania, where she obtained her Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree in 2013. Initially she loved working with patients with neuromuscular disorders during her clinical work at the Rehabilitation Institution of Ohio for Stroke and Traumatic Brain Injury but soon developed a passion to work in orthopedics.

Following graduation, Abby moved to Chicago. She excelled in working with the athletic and sport population for the past 5 years at Advocate Medical Group at an outpatient clinic in Elburn. As well, she enjoys working registry at Marian Joy Rehabilitation (now Delnor Hospital). Abby specializes in vestibular rehabilitation and sports-specific training including all athletic populations with certifications and specialties in RockTape, Rock Blades, and Astym Treatment. She is also trained in myofascial release and specialty manual therapy techniques.

In her free time, Abby is still very much into her own physical fitness where she enjoys running and completing triathlons. Most recently she has completed the Boston MarathonRite Aid Cleveland Marathon, and the Fox Valley Marathon to name a few. She and her husband, Stephan, enjoy CrossFit and often Abby can be found helping to train family and friends in her spare time. Abby also enjoys hiking and traveling the world with her husband and their 7-month-old Labrador retriever.

Meet the Author
Denise Smith graduated from Marquette University in 2002 with a Master’s Degree in Physical Therapy and has been a certified running technique specialist since 2014. She is a consultant for multiple local middle and high schools and instructs courses in Kinesiology at McHenry County College. Denise also travels the country as part of the Pose Method education team with a lecture series on injury prevention and treatment along with the running technique certification course.
